What Are Automatic Product Redirects In Magento 2?
In Magento 2, when you change any URL key of a product, it will create automatic redirects. Then, when your customers access the old URL, they will be redirected automatically to the new/ edited address. However, you must conduct several configurations in the back-end menu to make it work.
How To Set Up Automatic Product Redirects In Magento 2?
There are just 4 simple steps to configure automatic product redirects in Magento 2. Let’s get started!
Step 1: Go to the admin panel, navigate to STORES and choose Configuration (under Settings)
(Admin Panel => STORES => Configuration)
Step 2: Select Catalog in the left panel, under CATALOG section
Expand the CATALOG section, then choose Catalog in the drop-down.
Step 3: Expand the Search Engine Optimization section
After expanding the Search Engine Optimization, you must select Yes for the field – Create Permanent Redirect for URLs if URL Key Changed. After that, save the config.
Step 4: Go to the admin panel, navigate PRODUCTS and choose Catalog (under Inventory)
(Admin Panel => PRODUCTS => Catalog)
Next, choose a product from the list.
Let’s scroll the page until you find the Search Engine Optimization section. Here, check on the box of Create Permanent Redirect for old URL and edit the URL Key if needed. When you finish, save the config. Afterwards, remember to refresh cache to complete all settings.
Now, when the customers access the page of this product, they will be automatically redirected to the new URL. Besides, Magento allows you to check all of the redirect records by going to the admin panel, selecting MARKETINGS, then choosing URL Rewrites under SEO & Search. (Admin panel => MARKETINGS => URL Rewrites)
