How To Configure Fixed Product Tax (FPT) in Magento 2? (10 minutes)

WHAT IS A FIXED PRODUCT TAX IN MAGENTO 2?

In Magento 2, we are allowed to set up the Fixed Product Tax (FPT) in order to apply different taxes for different countries/ states.  In this Magento 2 tutorial, we will show you 6 simple steps to create new Fixed Product Tax in the back-end.

HOW TO CONFIGURE FIXED PRODUCT TAXES IN MAGENTO 2?

  • Step 1: Go the admin panel, navigate to STORES and choose Configuration (under Settings)

  • Step 2: Expand SALES in the left menu and select Tax in the dropdown

(SALES => Tax)

  • Step 3: Enable the Fixed Product Tax

Firstly, you must expand the Fixed Product Taxes in the right as the following.

Secondly, you must select the FPT setting for different price displays (in Product Lists/ Product View/ Sale Modules/ Emails)

Thirdly, you must set Apply Tax to FPT
and Include FPT In Subtotal to Yes if you find these necessary.

Fourthly, don’t forget to save the config.

  • Step 4: Create new Fixed Product Tax attribute

Go the admin panel, navigate to STORES and choose Product (under Settings)

(Admin Panel => STORES => Configuration)

Then, click on the Add New Attribute button.

Next, set a Default Label for the new attribute and select Fixed Product Tax in the Catalog Input Type for Store Owner section.config fixed product tax magento 2

After that, you must expand the Advanced Attribute Properties, enter Attribute Code (lowercase no spaces, no special character, less than 30 characters) or leave it black so it will automatically take the value in the Default Label.

Moreover, set Add to Column options to Yes in case you want to show the Fixed Product Tax in the inventory grid. Besides, set the field Use in Filter Options to Yes if you want to apply filter for products based on FPT values.

Click on Save Attribute to and flush the cache to complete.

  • Step 5: Add the new FPT attributes to a specific attribute set

Go the admin panel, navigate to STORES and choose Attribute Set (under Attributes)

(Admin Panel => STORES => Attribute Set)

Then, it will show a list of available Attribute Set for you to choose. Click on the one you want to add the newly created attribute to.

Next, move the new Fixed Product Tax attribute – FPT (in Unassigned Attributes) to the center Group column. Save to complete.

  • Step 6: Apply Fixed Product Tax for each product

Go the admin panel, navigate to PRODUCTS and choose Catalog (under Inventory)

(Admin Panel => PRODUCTS => Inventory)

Then, select an item that you want to add the fixed product tax to.

In the product setting page, navigate to FPT section, select the Country/State where applies the tax and add a specfic amount of tax in the Tax field.

Finally, click on the Save button to finish.
