What Is The Sitemap In Magento 2?
A good rank or position in the search engines is the desire of all Magento e-commerce stores, and using the sitemap is a simple way to support SEO by letting those search engines crawl and index each page on your site. In other words, a sitemap is a plain-text XML file consisting of links to all pages, which is pivotal since web scrawlers often overlook a number of pages.
Besides, Magento allows us to generate the sitemap.xml file which is saved to your installation’s root directory. In this tutorial, we will show you how to configure it in the back-end step-by-step.
How To Set Up Sitemap In Magento 2?
There are just 4 simple steps to generate a sitemap for your Magento 2 store. Let’s get started!
- Step 1: Set Frequency and Priority for updates
Go to the Admin Panel, navigate to STORES, and choose Configuration (under Settings)
(Admin Panel => STORES => Configuration)
On the left panel, please tap CATALOG and select the XML Sitemap in the dropdown.
Next, expand the Categories Options section on the right panel. Then, set the frequency for the category updates (Always/ Hourly/ Daily/ Weekly…). It is recommended to update your sitemap regularly to catch up with the changes in the site content.
Also, you must set up Priority for the category updates by entering a value in the range from 0.0 to 1.0 (a smaller number means higher priority).
Similarly, please expand the Product Options & the CMS Page Options to set Frequency and Priority for these sections.
Step 2: Move to General Settings
Firstly, you must expand the General Settings section.
Secondly, choose Yes in the Enabled field.
Thirdly, you must set a specific time for updating.
Fourthly, enter the email address of the person who will receive possible notification of errors throughout the update process.
Fifthly, choose the Error Email Sender & Error Email Template.
Step 3: Complete the Sitemap File Limits
Similar to the previous sections, you must expand the Sitemap File Limits section. Then, it asks you to set the maximum number of URLs included in the sitemap per file as well as the maximum file size (in byte) allocated.
Step 4: Finish the Search Engine Submission Settings
Set the only field Enable Submission to Robots.txt to Yes. Last but not least, save the configuration.
